Rachel Ramirez

Rachel Ramirez is a climate writer for CNN, where she covers climate change, environmental justice, clean energy, and extreme weather. She joined CNN's Climate team in 2021, focusing on breaking news and in-depth narratives that illustrate the climate crisis' societal impacts. Prior to CNN, she worked as a freelance journalist for outlets including Vox, HuffPost, The Guardian, Grist, and Financial Times. Born and raised in Saipan, Northern Mariana Islands, Ramirez co-founded the Asian American Journalists Association's Pacific Islander Task Force and co-directs its young professionals network (Yung AAJA). She also co-chaired AAJA's 2024 Convention Planning Committee. Recognized as AAJA's 2024 Member of the Year and a Journalist of the Year by Covering Climate Now, Ramirez emphasizes amplifying Pacific Islander voices and mentoring early-career journalists.
