About Michelle Marchante
Michelle Marchante is an award-winning health reporter at the Miami Herald, born and raised in Miami. Since joining the Herald in 2019 as a breaking news reporter, she's covered pivotal events including COVID-19, hurricanes, and the Surfside condo collapse - coverage that earned her team the 2022 Pulitzer Prize for Breaking News. Promoted to health reporter in 2023, she investigates healthcare system challenges, hospital bankruptcies, and disease outbreaks. Her investigative series on a closed heart transplant program made her a finalist for two 2024 Florida Sunshine State Awards, while her consumer health stories won second place in the 73rd Green Eyeshade Awards. A 2020-2021 Poynter-Koch Media & Journalism Fellow and 2025 National Press Foundation Mental Health Fellow, she co-created Curious305, the Herald's community-driven reporting initiative. Before the Herald, she worked at WSVN Channel 7 and led FIU's PantherNOW as Editor-in-Chief.
