About Maya Lau
Maya Lau is an award-winning investigative journalist and podcast host with a decade of experience in criminal justice reporting. She began her career at The Shreveport Times covering crime, then joined The Advocate (Louisiana) where she led an IRE Award-winning investigation into corruption at Angola Prison that led to the warden's resignation. At the Los Angeles Times (2018-2023), she exposed the LASD's secret 'Brady List' of deputies with misconduct histories, work that prompted case reviews and led to her 2024 retaliation lawsuit against former Sheriff Alex Villanueva. She now hosts Pushkin Industries' 'Other People’s Pockets' podcast exploring personal finance and salary transparency, while running a financial investigation firm. Lau holds a Vassar College degree and served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Senegal (2009-2011) developing urban agriculture programs.
