Kristen Schorsch is a veteran investigative journalist with over 20 years of experience covering public health, Cook County government, and systemic inequities. She currently reports on healthcare policy, hospital systems, and local governance for WBEZ Chicago, with a focus on how public institutions impact marginalized communities. Previously, she covered healthcare, crime, courts, and higher education for Crain’s Chicago Business, the Chicago Tribune, and other outlets. Her work has driven policy changes and investigations, earning her multiple awards including the Edward R. Murrow Award and National Headliner. Schorsch is known for data-driven reporting and deep dives into healthcare access disparities, exemplified by her series on Mercy Hospital’s closure and its impact on South Side Chicago communities. She co-founded FOIAFest, an annual conference promoting transparency through public records, and holds a journalism degree from the University of Illinois.
