Kate Hilpern

Kate Hilpern is an award-winning freelance journalist with over 25 years of experience across national newspapers and magazines. She holds a First Class Honours degree in Communications Studies from London Guildhall University (1993-1996) and a Distinction in her Master's in Journalism from Goldsmiths, University of London (1997). Her career includes writing for The Independent, Guardian, Daily Mail, Daily Express, The Times, and Evening Standard, alongside magazine contributions to Prima, Good Housekeeping, Woman & Home, and Woman’s Weekly. She served as a part-time editor at The Independent and spent nearly a decade as a visiting journalism tutor at Goldsmiths. Hilpern specializes in social issues, health, family, and education, with a particular focus on adoption and fostering—drawing from her personal experience as an adopted person. She sat on an adoption panel for 10 years and works as an intermediary for the charity Norcap. Currently, she's a senior editor at The Good Schools Guide and balances her journalism with copywriting and media training services.
