Jonathan Watts

Jonathan Watts is a British journalist renowned for his environmental reporting and role as Global Environment Editor at The Guardian. Since 1996, he has covered major events across East Asia and Latin America, including the North Korean nuclear crisis, the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami, and Amazon deforestation. Based in Altamira, Brazil, he co-founded Sumaúma, an independent news agency focused on Amazon coverage, and the Rainforest Journalism Fund to bolster environmental reporting. His award-winning work includes the books *When a Billion Chinese Jump* and *How to Save the Amazon*, the latter completed posthumously for journalist Dom Phillips. Watts has interviewed leaders like Brazil’s Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and Bolivia’s Evo Morales, and his reporting spans climate summits, biodiversity crises, and frontline environmental conflicts.
