Akbar Shahid Ahmed

Akbar Shahid Ahmed is the Senior Diplomatic Correspondent for HuffPost based in Washington, D.C. A native Pakistani, he has reported extensively across the Muslim-majority world, Europe, Asia, and the U.S. He was selected for the East-West Center’s Korea-United States Journalists Exchange (2023) and won a Boell Transatlantic Media Fellowship (2022) to report from Poland and Lithuania. In 2019, he became the first Pakistani journalist credentialed to report from Israel-Palestine and was part of the Atlantic Council's inaugural LGBTI fellows cohort. Ahmed previously wrote for the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Generation Progress, DAWN, and Newsline magazine. He provides expert commentary for outlets including MSNBC, Al Jazeera, and BBC. A Yale University graduate, he studied global affairs, edited the Yale Daily News, and completed the Brady-Johnson Program in Grand Strategy. He is currently writing a book on Gaza and the Biden administration for W.W. Norton & Company. Ahmed speaks Urdu, Hindi, and French.
